Jon & Sarah

Married at Old Hickory Farm

Working in the wedding industry, I am afforded the opportunity to meet a number of pretty amazing people. Sarah and Jon are certainly no exception to that rule. Jon an I started our businesses at the same time a number of years ago, and learned and grew together. We had agreed a while ago that he would be the DJ at my wedding, and I would photograph his wedding. Well the time came for both of us, and we got to be a huge part of each other's big day!

Enter Sarah .... yeah, she is pretty awesome!! She is so kind, talented, and she even likes Jon! These two get along so incredibly well, and watching their wedding unfold was a fantastic experience. They worked together in the beginning of the day to put the finishing touches on their reception space before they went their separate ways to get ready to say their vows. I loved how sneaky Sarah and her side of the wedding party was when Jon and the guys went to lunch. They briefly rehearsed a "Surprise" for Jon while he was out.

Jon & Sarah were married in the barn at Old Hickory Farm by their good friend, Kevin Witmer. They both wrote their own vows, and naturally there was not a dry eye in the house (including Jon & Sarah's!!). Fast forward to their introductions - The whole place was on their feet when Jon & Sarah came into the building, and they pulled out all of the stops for their first dance, when they "Danced on the clouds"... yup, epic. Continuing with the amazing evening, Sarah's side of the wedding party each gave part of the toast, handing her a puzzle piece following their words which created a heart for them to keep.

While I hate pulling brides & grooms when they're eating, I didn't have much of a choice on this particular day. The sunset was just too colorful to pass up. We took some quick images when the sky was on fire, and sent Jon & Sarah back to finish their meals.... Scroll down, you'll see that it was worth it.

The rest of the evening was an absolute blast. EVERYONE was on the dance floor for the entire night. Between songs, Sarah and her side of the wedding party presented her "Surprise" for Jon. This surprise consisted of a medley of "Stand by Me" by Ben E. King and  "This Must be the Place" by Talking Heads. Sarah's bridesman, Sam Peters arranged it! (Nice job!) .... Overall, it was incredible day and I enjoyed being part of my good friends' wedding!

Nicole & Dave

Married at Tailwater Lodge

September 29, 2017

Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Adams! Nicole & Dave chose the beautiful setting of Tailwater Lodge in Altmar to say their vows and celebrate their marriage! Their good friend, Jeff Watkins, performed their ceremony in a wonderful personal way - It is always so nice when a someone who knows the bride and groom personally is the one to perform the ceremony. Following their ceremony, we made our way into the barn to party for the rest of the night... and that they did!!

Side note... Throughout the evening, I did notice something when I watched Dave's interaction with Nicole. Every time they went to do anything, he ALWAYS moved over and let her go first. I feel as though it is extremely rare to see a groom respect a bride so much that he steps aside so she can hug the best man and bridesmaid first after their toasts. Pretty fantastic, right? I think that is the mark of a successful marriage!

Megan & Dan - Married at Tailwater Lodge

November 19, 2017  •  Leave a Comment

Megan & Dan chose to have their wedding at Tailwater Lodge in Altmar far before the construction was completed. Being an adventurous couple, this was not out of the ordinary for them! They most certainly made the right choice, because it created the perfect backdrop for the marriage of an outdoors-loving couple.

Megan & Dan have had quite the adventure so far in their time together. From New York, to Colorado, and now to Maryland, their location does not matter, because they're constantly enjoying their time together.

I have known Megan from my days at Potsdam, but I only had the pleasure of meeting Dan for the first time when we shot their engagement session at Watkins Glenn. We hiked up the trail for a few hours and got to know each other! Continuing with their sense of adventure, they were planning on spending the rest of their time in New York by going camping immediately after the session!

Lisa & Herrick - Married in the Blue Ridge Mountains

I am so very excited to share with Lisa & Herrick's wedding with you. Knowing Herrick for about 9 years now, I was extremely happy when he contact me and requested that I be part of their wedding day. Meeting Lisa for the first time the day before the wedding, I quickly realized that her and Herrick compliment each other perfectly. They get along so well, and have some incredible friends to back them up.

Let's talk about their venue a bit.... As the post title says, they had their ceremony and reception in the Blue Ridge Mountains at the Lydia Mountain Lodge & Log Cabins. Driving in to find each cabin was an adventure, as the roads are mostly unpaved, and weaving in and out of the mountain. Once we drove to their ceremony site, the dense trees opened up and we could enjoy a gorgeous view for miles! Lisa & Herrick had the most important individuals in their lives in their wedding party - Dogs included, of course!!

The weather was perfect on their wedding day so we were able to have the sides of the pavilion wide open for the entire evening. The guests showed off their incredible dance moves and talent at shotgunning beers, and finished the evening by the bonfire making S'mores.
